Reyen

Hello guys, I’m Reyen (rae-yen) and I’m a writing tutor at Highline College. I’ve read a lot of books throughout my life and found it really interesting that there are different types of writing. Tutoring writing has helped me view different writing styles and also helped me develop many writing skills that I can use later in life. An interest I have currently is anthropology, learning about past humans and comparing them to us now is very interesting. I don’t have any long-term goals, but I’m thinking about pursuing a career in real estate or accounting. A fun fact about me is that I really love the rain. 🙂

Why did you become a writing tutor? I decided to become a writing tutor to work on my strengths. As of late I have been taking mainly math classes as well as working alone. I have been losing strength with writing and helping others, so I became a tutor to work on that.

What is your major/area of interest at Highline? I aim to go into computer science.

What are your long-term educational/career goals? I aim to be a life-long learner. Once I graduate college, I will aim to learn new skills while working in the computer science field.

What’s one “fun fact” about you? I can make some really good pasta.

Elham

I became a writing tutor mostly because I like reading and want to have outstanding writing skills, and I believe tutoring in the writing center will give me that. My major is Mechanical Engineering. After getting my diploma from Highline I want to transfer to a four-year university to have my Degree. I am scared of dolls; I think they are secretly alive.

Rady

I want to become a writing tutor because I want to help students who are struggling with their writing assignment and English class. Moreover, I want to keep improving my writing skill, and gaining new experience as a tutor. My major of interest at Highline is associate of science in Biology. My long-term career goals, I want to transfer to university after completing my degree at Highline college to get bachelor’s degree of biology. After that, I would like to apply to pharmacy school.  I want to become a pharmacist in the future. One “fun fact” about me is I love chocolate so much.

Emily

I wanted to become a tutor so I can help give back to the students at Highline, while continuing to improve on my current skills. I’m in the BAS program for Applied Management; I will graduate in June 2024 with my degree as well as two accounting certifications. In fall of 2024 I will be starting at CWU for my bachelors’ degree in accounting. For my long term goals, I want to be able to help women from DV learn financial independence. Fun facts about me: I enjoy photography and try to go somewhere new every chance I get, I believe water chestnuts are pointless and gummy bears make everything better!

Carley

Writing is a challenging skill to develop, as every individual has their own unique journey in communication. Fascinated with the interconnectedness of words and the humans behind written works, I became a writing tutor to support writer’s developing their skills and learn about the many ways we use language.

Currently, I am studying Multimedia at Highline. My main goal is to become a professional writer. However, I am hoping to find a job that allows me to combine many of my interests, including film, photography, and art.

Aside from art and storytelling, I love being outside exploring nature and playing with family and friends.

Jeremiah

I became a writing tutor so that I could not only assist others with their ability to write and learn new information, but so I could also do the same. I’m currently working on getting my AA to transfer to the University of Washington and work towards an English degree, and in the future, I’d like to work in the film/entertainment industry, and ultimately be a film director. One fun fact about me is that I do voice acting and am currently working on writing a novel and a film script.

Mohammad

As a writing tutor, I love using words because they help me express myself. I am an introvert and think a lot, so writing feels natural to me—it’s like sharing my thoughts without having to speak them out loud, also I think before I say something in other words I am very cautious with my words and writing gives me time to express myself better. Even though I study computer science, I still enjoy writing and want to become a great Software Engineer. I stay calm by focusing on what I can control, following a philosophy called stoicism. As a tutor, I help people find their own voice through writing, making it fun and easy for them to express themselves too.

Yeabsira

Hi Everyone! My name is Yeabsira and I am a student here at Highline College.

I became a writing tutor because I love helping people and I always think that there is something magical about guiding fellow students through the writing process. As I am helping others, I keep discovering more about myself. And I find their challenges becoming my lessons.

Currently I am working to get my AA in Biology at Highline and planning on transferring to a 4-year university preferably University of Washington and specialize in dermatology.

One fun fact about me is that I am allergic to sweets but I keep having them.
