Workshops Are Not Currently Being Offered

Highline College Writing WorkshopsThe Writing Center is in the process of onboarding a new director, and while she’s getting up to speed, we’re not able to offer workshops. If you’re interested a workshop for your class, please keep checking this website. We will update it with our workshop offerings as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience!

In the Writing Center workshops, we tackle common writing challenges together. We learn about the topic, practice applying it, and exchange questions and answers.

Peer Review Workshops (Not currently available)

Are you a student wanting to improve your peer review skills or an instructor interested in helping your students build these skills? To book a 50-minute classroom workshop for training in how to provide useful feedback without being experts, email the Writing Center.

Learn how to structure an essay and develop your own ways of writing effectively.

Summarizing and Paraphrasing (Not currently available)

Don’t know how to navigate around the fine line between plagiarism and paraphrasing? Are you having a difficult time summarizing a source without using too many or too little words? Fear not, our tutors can teach you how to do both during our workshops.

Tricky Punctuation (Not currently available)

Learn how to properly utilize punctuation in your writing.

Common Errors (Not currently available)

Learn to find and fix common editing errors such as subject-verb agreement, tense shift, fragments, run-ons, and comma splices.

Quoting and Citing (Not currently available)

The differences between MLA and APA citation can be quite perplex. Join us as we teach you how to use them properly.

We discuss common differences found between Japanese and English. A native Japanese speaking tutor will be present to answer any questions you may have. Also, you’re encouraged to bring in your essay for review with a tutor!
