Highline is one of the few colleges in the nation that offers national CRLA Tutoring Certification.

Writing Center Consultant at a computer helping student.Our tutors have been successful in writing classes and demonstrate strong writing and interpersonal skills. All tutors are required to participate in weekly training meetings, for which they receive credit.

Working in the Writing Center is a great academic and professional experience. Students who work here have professional development opportunities, earn transferable credits, and improve their own writing. While we all enjoy these opportunities, everyone who works here agrees that the best part of this job is being able to work with and befriend people from all different backgrounds.

Writing Tutor Qualifications

  • 3.5 or higher in English 101 or higher writing-oriented class
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • 2+ quarters available to work at the Writing Center (prefer 3+)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in diverse perspectives
  • Mature judgment and reliability
